Rebecca Stevens, RA, AIA NCARB
architect
Returning to architrave pc after eight years of serving as the first Cultural Resources Manager for Arlington National Cemetery, I have a lifetime of experience in the preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings, structures, landscapes, and major monuments. My career has centered on the long-term preservation of publicly-owner historic properties from vernacular buildings and museums in National Parks to engineering works and major monumental structures in the DC area.
After practicing architecture throughout the West and Southwest with the National Park Service supervising construction, designing, and managing preservation and new construction projects, I relocated to Washington DC to serve as Chief Historical Architect for the National Park Service National Capital Region. I served as chief during the preservation of the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials and Washington Monument.
My particular interest is developing simple, innovative, and no-harm solutions for building and material deterioration issues. For example, I researched and tested off-the-shelf products and never-before-used methods for cleaning biofilm from 100-year-old marble structures at Arlington National Cemetery and followed through with best method. The technical and historic aspects for this work are of such interest to industry and other professionals I have presented findings locally and internationally.
My clients included the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Smithsonian Institute, and the District of Columbia.
A native Buckeye, I now live in Maryland with my husband and cat, YoYo. We love to swim, cook, and travel.
