Anacostia Community Museum

The first incarnation in 1967 of this Smithsonian “neighborhood” museum was an “off-the-Mall” storefront in historic Anacostia’s Carver Theater.

Within a decade the Museum outgrew the theater and moved to its Exhibits Design/Production Laboratory in Fort Stanton Park, consolidating all the museum functions in a single location.
